On Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order to activate the Florida National Guard, according to the governor’s office. The action is “In response to reports of potential civil unrest. In his order DeSantis wrote, “to protect the State, its citizens, and public buildings and property from any potential civil unrest.”  Click to read the executive order.

DeSantis has directed the National Guard to support the FDLE in its efforts to support state and local law enforcement ahead of planned protests ahead of President-Elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, January 20th in Washington. The order is in effect immediately and will remain active until January 24th.

The order from the Governor did not specify the number of troops that will be sent to the Florida Capitol, which will be closed out of an abundance of caution.

In Washington, D.C., authorities closed the National Mall ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday.
