KENANSVILLE, Fla. — Curving horns, sure-footed movement and a history connected to some of the sheep people know today make the mouflon an intriguing animal to discover at Wild Florida Adventure Park.

Mouflon sheep are among the exotic animals visitors can encounter while traveling through Wild Florida’s Drive-Thru Safari Park in Kenansville.

Mouflon are wild sheep associated with rugged landscapes and mountainous terrain. Males are particularly recognizable because of their impressive curved horns, which can become increasingly prominent as the animals mature.

Those horns aren’t simply decorative.

Male mouflon use their horns when competing with other males, and clashes between rivals can produce the dramatic head-to-head behavior often associated with wild sheep.

Their bodies are also suited to navigating challenging terrain, with hooves that help provide footing across rocky environments.

Mouflon are especially interesting because they are closely connected to the ancestry of domestic sheep, providing visitors with a glimpse at what the wild relatives of familiar farm animals can look like.

At Wild Florida, families can discover them without ever leaving their vehicle.

The 170-acre Drive-Thru Safari Park takes visitors along a four-mile route featuring more than 150 exotic and native animals.

Giraffes, zebras, bison, wildebeest, Watusi cattle and other animals make the journey a road trip where watching for wildlife is part of the fun.

Afterward, visitors can continue through Wild Florida’s Gator Park or take an airboat adventure through the Headwaters of the Florida Everglades.

Wild Florida Adventure Park is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed Sundays. Reservations can be made Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
