With a dramatic crest of white hair flowing from the top of its head, the cotton-top tamarin is one of the most unmistakable small primates in the animal kingdom — and a species that has been featured at Wild Florida Adventure Park’s Gator Park.
Native to Colombia, cotton-top tamarins are small monkeys with expressive faces, long tails and their signature white crest.
But their memorable appearance comes with an important conservation story.
Cotton-top tamarins are critically endangered, with habitat loss among the major threats facing their wild population. That makes learning about the species an opportunity to appreciate not only what makes these tiny primates unique, but also why protecting wildlife and natural habitats matters.
