The Scott Frost era at UCF got off to a victorious restart last week, as the Knights edged Jacksonville State 17–10 in a hard-fought season opener that was delayed more than two hours by weather. Now, UCF will look to build on that momentum when they host North Carolina A&T this Saturday at the Bounce House.
Frost Returns With a Win
Frost, who engineered UCF’s historic unbeaten 2017 season before departing for Nebraska, picked up right where he left off in his first game back on the sidelines in Orlando. The victory marked his 14th consecutive win as UCF’s head coach, tying him with Florida State’s Mike Norvell and Oregon’s Dan Lanning for the nation’s longest current streak at one school.
Saturday’s matchup provides a chance for Frost to tie Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, who won 15 straight in 2023 during the Wolverines’ championship campaign.
A Game-Winning Strike
The Knights found themselves locked in a defensive struggle, with the game scoreless at halftime. But with just over a minute remaining, quarterback Tayven Jackson delivered a clutch 33-yard touchdown pass to DJ Black, sealing the win and electrifying the Bounce House crowd.
Black’s heroics were especially notable, as he transferred from Limestone after the Division II program shut down last year. His first start at the Power 4 level couldn’t have been scripted better.
Passing Game Finds Its Rhythm
While UCF’s offense sputtered early, the Knights showcased a renewed emphasis on the passing game. Jackson threw for 282 yards—his second-highest career total—and the team combined for 314 yards through the air. Remarkably, UCF had not eclipsed 300 passing yards in a game since September 2023.
Program Milestones
The victory also carried historic weight, as it was the 300th win in UCF football history, making the Knights the seventh-fastest current Big 12 program to reach that milestone. Since 2017, UCF has posted more wins (70) than any other Big 12 member, placing the program among college football’s most consistent winners.
What’s Next: Knights vs. Aggies
The Knights now turn their attention to North Carolina A&T, led by new head coach Shawn Gibbs. While the Aggies come in from the FCS ranks, UCF won’t be taking the matchup lightly—especially with another chance to extend Frost’s win streak and keep building momentum ahead of tougher Big 12 competition later this month.
Kickoff is set for Saturday evening at the Bounce House, where UCF has won 16 of its last 19 home openers. With fresh uniforms, new turf, and Frost back at the helm, the stage is set for the Knights to keep writing their next chapter in program history.
