Following the first full weekend of college football, the American Athletic Conference handed out its weekly awards on Monday and named UCF senior Kalia Davis its first Defensive Player of the Week of the 2021 season.

UCF senior Isaiah Bowser was also named to The American’s Weekly Honor Roll for his performance in the Knights’ 36-31 comeback victory over Boise State on Thursday night.

Davis earned his first-career weekly honor from the AAC and is the first Knight to receive Defensive Player of the Week honors from the conference since Titus Davis did so Nov. 19, 2018.

The senior defensive tackle put up career highs of six tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss in the victory over the Broncos, his first game action in over a year after opting out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bowser, meanwhile, earned one of five honor roll spots after rushing 33 times for a career-high 172 yards rushing with one touchdown. The Northwestern transfer was the first UCF player with 30 or more rushes since the 2011 season.

Davis, Bowser, and the Knights will be back in action this Saturday when UCF hosts Bethune-Cookman. The Knights and the Wildcats are scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. from the Bounce House with coverage on ESPN+ and FM 96.9 The Game.
