A 33-year-old Lakeland woman was fatally struck Monday night near Davenport after the vehicle she was in broke down, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a crash report, the woman’s boyfriend told troopers that the vehicle they were driving broke down on Osceola Polk Line Road, west of Sandy Oak Dr. Monday night just after 9pm. The woman crossed the roadway to confirm their location to provide to a towing service when she was hit by a black Nissan Maxima, driven by a 32-year-0ld man from the Bronx in New York.

The woman was transported to Orlando Health Reunion Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.
