The 154th Silver Spurs Rodeo is set to kick off tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Kissimmee. In celebration of the start of the rodeo season, the Silver Spurs Club is offering Osceola County students free admission to the Thursday performance with a valid school ID. Adult tickets for this night are priced at $20, with non-Osceola students at $15 making it an affordable event for families to enjoy local rodeo traditions.

The Silver Spurs Rodeo has a rich history dating back to 1944, when it was established by the Silver Spurs Riding Club. Over the years, it has grown into the largest professional rodeo east of the Mississippi River, as recognized by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The event features all seven traditional rodeo events: bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, and barrel racing, attracting top contestants from across the nation.

Friday February 21 is Rodeo Day, a longstanding Osceola County tradition, where Osceola students are given the day off from school. Dating back to the 1950s, this day is observed in lieu of President’s Day, reflecting the county’s deep-rooted connection to its ranching and rodeo heritage. On Rodeo Day, schools close, allowing students and families to fully engage in the celebrations.

The Silver Spurs Rodeo is more than just an event; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the community and its dedication to preserving a unique cultural legacy. As the 154th edition approaches, the Silver Spurs Riding Club continues to honor the traditions established over eight decades ago, inviting all to experience the excitement and camaraderie that define this historic rodeo.
