A 2-year-old boy is dead after the van he was riding in failed to stop and crashed into the back off a charter bus in Osceola County in Four Corners early Saturday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 29-year-old woman from Orlando was driving north in a van with a 2-year-old boy on Westside Boulevard at Funie Steed Road around 12:30 am Saturday morning.

The woman driving the van was in the outside lane of Westside Boulevard when she approached the roadway’s four-way intersection at Funie Steed Road, troopers said. A charter bus with no passengers driven by a 53-year-old man from Ocala was driving ahead of the van and stopped at the intersection. The van failed to stop at that intersection and crashed into the rear of the stopped charter  bus.

The woman driving the van was treated for minor injuries, but tragically, the 2-year-old boy that was riding with her was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to FHP.

Troopers believe the child was in a forward-facing car seat, the crash report says. The driver of the empty charter bus was uninjured and remained at the scene.

FHP is still investigating the crash.
