The last two years have been challenging, possibly the most challenging many of us have experienced during our lifetimes. But, a new year is here, and as a community, as a nation, and as a world – we embrace a fresh start with hope for the new year. Positively Osceola asked a number of positive leaders in the community to share their hope and their plans for the new year, and how we can encourage and support each other in 2022. We asked Terry Castillo, Chair of the Osceola County School Board from District 1, to share her hope and outlook for 2022.

The New Year is a time of reflection and planning. It is wise to use this time to propel you into your goals, and if there is anything we learned from the past two years of crisis, planning is not enough. Staying focused on a plan is part of the success equation. The other equally important factor is employing flexibility.

On our journey through 2022, we will face challenges and obstacles that can deviate us from our goals. Detours are expected, detours can be our allies, but I urge you to stay single-mindedly focused on where you are going this year.

My goal this year is to be a fierce advocate for our students. And while I do not know what obstacles lie ahead, I know one thing, I will stay focused on that goal above anything else.

So my hope for you is that you stay focused, lean into your obstacles to make them your allies, and above all, I hope that you are victorious! Happy New Year.

Terry Castillo
