Hurricane Dorian has been upgraded to a Category 5 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of the 8am update Hurricane Dorian’s eyewall was about to hit the Abaco Islands. The storm was about 225 miles east of West Palm Beach and was still moving west diligently at 8mph.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have urged residents to remain focused on the powerful storm’s progress  because the exact track of the storm is not known and will not be know until it is past the Bahamas most likely.

Dorian is expected to churn out gusts up to 190 mph before slamming into the northern Bahamas including the Abaco islands and Grand Bahama Island. Hurricane-force winds extend out 30 miles with tropical storm-force winds extending out 105 miles.
