A 47-year-old man from Wisconsin was fatally struck by a pickup truck driven by a St. Cloud man early Thursday morning after he got out of his pickup truck along Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County, Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash took place around 1:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike ahead of Kissimmee Park Road.

According to FHP’s crash report, the man was driving a 2013 Ram 1500 and pulling a boat trailer and pulled over and stopped on the outside shoulder of the Turnpike.  For an unknown reason the man got out of his pickup and was standing on the shoulder when he and the trailer were struck by a 2005 Ford F-150 driven by a 42-year-old man from St. Cloud man who, according to FHP, “failed to maintain the outside lane of travel.”

The man from Wisconsin was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Ford pickup was not injured, the FHP said.

Southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed in the area but were later reopened.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.
