The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for certain HelloFresh Ready Made Meals produced by FreshRealm that contain spinach which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (Lm). The meals were shipped directly to consumers through HelloFresh.

FSIS says additional affected products may be identified and the alert will be updated as new information becomes available.

  • HELLO FRESH READY MADE MEALS CHEESY PULLED PORK PEPPER PASTA (10.1 oz)

What prompted the alert: FreshRealm notified FSIS that spinach used in these meals tested positive for Listeria.

Illness reports: As of today, no confirmed adverse reactions have been reported related to these specific HelloFresh meals. Anyone concerned about illness should contact a healthcare provider.


What to do if you have these items

  • Do not eat them.

  • Throw them away or return to the place of purchase.

  • If you’re in a higher-risk group (pregnant, older adult, immunocompromised) and develop flu-like symptoms within two months of eating a potentially contaminated product, seek medical care and tell your provider about the exposure.


About Listeria (Listeriosis)

  • Can cause serious infections, especially in older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women/newborns.

  • Symptoms: fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions; sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other GI symptoms.

  • In pregnancy, infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or serious newborn illness.

  • Treatment: antibiotics.
