Osceola County officials and community partners gathered this week to celebrate the completion of two major roadway projects that will significantly improve safety, mobility, and connectivity for residents across one of the county’s busiest corridors.

The Simpson Road South Widening Project and the Fortune Road/Simpson Road Intersection Safety Improvements Project — together representing more than $60 million in infrastructure upgrades — were officially unveiled nearly 190 days ahead of schedule, for the fast-growing county.

The $31.47 million Simpson Road South project widened and reconstructed approximately two miles of roadway from U.S. 192 to Harbor Town Drive. The work expanded the road from two to four lanes and added:

  • New sidewalks

  • Upgraded traffic signals

  • Enhanced drainage systems

  • Shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists

Just north of the widening project, the $34 million Fortune Road/Simpson Road Intersection Improvements Project delivered:

  • Raised medians

  • New turn lanes

  • Upgraded signalization

  • Enhanced, safer crosswalks

Combined, these improvements aim to reduce congestion, improve travel times, and strengthen safety for drivers, walkers, and cyclists in one of the county’s most traveled areas.

Commissioner Viviana Janer, Chairwoman of the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners, emphasized the long-term value of these projects during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“As we cut this ribbon today, we’re not just opening new lanes — we’re opening the door to safer commutes, stronger neighborhoods, and a better-connected Osceola County.”

Janer noted that these projects reflect years of planning, extensive community input, and collaboration with contractors and engineers committed to delivering improvements that meet the area’s rapid growth.

Led by the Osceola County Transportation and Transit Department in partnership with Jr. Davis Construction Company, Consor Engineers, and Hill International, the projects were supported by nearby residents, schools, and businesses throughout construction.

Both upgrades are part of the County’s long-term Simpson Road Corridor Widening and Improvement Plan, a $134.8 million investment aimed at strengthening roadway capacity and ensuring safe, sustainable travel for decades to come.

As Osceola County continues to grow, leaders say improvements like these are essential for keeping traffic moving efficiently and maintaining a high quality of life for the community.

Positively Osceola will continue to share updates on the county’s ongoing infrastructure projects designed to improve mobility and safety for residents across Osceola County.
