KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Osceola County School for the Arts Jazz A Band has once again earned national recognition, receiving a return invitation to compete in the prestigious Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival in New York City.

Presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center, the competition will take place April 30 through May 2, 2026, featuring 20 of the world’s top high school jazz bands. Out of 119 applicants, Osceola County School for the Arts stands as one of only three programs invited back—highlighting its continued excellence.

Led by Director of Jazz Studies Jason Anderson, the Jazz A Band has earned national acclaim, including first-place finishes in 2022 and 2023. The ensemble will return to New York aiming to once again compete among the nation’s best.

As part of its preparation, the band hosted a special April 1 clinic featuring acclaimed jazz trumpeter and educator Pharez Whitted. The workshop provided students with expert insight ahead of the competition. Whitted was joined by University of Central Florida instructor McClenty Hunter, adding additional depth and perspective to the session.

Now in its 31st year, Essentially Ellington is one of the most prestigious jazz education programs in the world, culminating in a final concert at Frederick P. Rose Hall.

In support of the trip, Osceola County Commissioner for District 2 Viviana Janer provided $10,000 through her Osceola County Betterment Grant to help offset travel expenses.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — La Osceola County School for the Arts Jazz A Band ha sido nuevamente reconocida a nivel nacional, obteniendo una invitación para regresar al prestigioso Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Presentado por Jazz at Lincoln Center, el evento se llevará a cabo del 30 de abril al 2 de mayo de 2026, con la participación de 20 de las mejores bandas de jazz estudiantiles del mundo. De 119 escuelas solicitantes, Osceola County School for the Arts es una de solo tres instituciones invitadas nuevamente, destacando su excelencia continua.

Bajo la dirección de Jason Anderson, Director de Estudios de Jazz, la Jazz A Band ha logrado reconocimiento nacional, incluyendo primeros lugares en 2022 y 2023. El grupo regresará a Nueva York con el objetivo de competir nuevamente entre los mejores.

Como parte de su preparación, la banda realizó una clínica especial el 1 de abril con la participación del reconocido trompetista y educador Pharez Whitted. El taller brindó a los estudiantes orientación experta antes de la competencia. En apoyo al viaje, la comisionada del Condado de Osceola para el Distrito 2, Viviana Janer, proporcionó una contribución de $10,000 a través de su Subvención de Mejoramiento del Condado para ayudar a cubrir los gastos del viaje.
