POINCIANA, Fla. — The School District of Osceola County officially celebrated the opening of its new West Osceola Transportation & Operations Facility on Wednesday, marking a major investment in student transportation, employee services, and operational efficiency just days before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
School Board members, district administrators, transportation employees, elected officials, and community partners gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and guided tour of the new campus at 5300 Robert McLane Blvd. in Poinciana, where district leaders highlighted the facility’s role in improving transportation services for the rapidly growing western portion of Osceola County.
The project, which broke ground in February 2025, was completed in approximately 18 months and was strategically designed to place buses, maintenance operations, and employee resources closer to the schools and neighborhoods they serve.
School Board Chair Heather Kahoun said the project was intentionally designed to improve operations while enhancing the employee experience.
“We just cut the ribbon on our new Transportation West facility. This facility was built with a lot of intention in mind. We wanted to reduce drive time for our bus drivers, helping take buses off the road and reducing traffic. It also provides a backup data center and will include an employee health center, giving staff on the west side easier access to healthcare. We’re hoping all of these improvements will benefit our teachers, support staff, bus drivers, and the entire community.”
Located on 53 acres, the new transportation center currently supports approximately 100 bus routes and has the capacity to accommodate up to 200 buses—more than half of the district’s transportation fleet. By positioning buses closer to schools and student neighborhoods, district officials say the facility will reduce fuel consumption, shorten route times, decrease traffic congestion caused by buses traveling across the county, and help students arrive home more quickly after school.
“We’ve been able to operationalize routing and really make it that much more efficient,” Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff said during the facility tour. District officials noted that fewer buses will need to travel across the county to begin and end their routes, creating a more efficient transportation system while supporting continued enrollment growth in western Osceola County.
Beyond transportation operations, the facility was designed as a full-service campus for transportation employees. It features a complete maintenance garage capable of handling both routine and major bus repairs on-site, eliminating the need to transport vehicles to the district’s central transportation facility in Kissimmee. The campus also includes driver training classrooms, CDL certification areas, meeting spaces, employee break rooms, and a dedicated driver training course.
The campus also serves as a critical technology asset for the school district through an off-site data center that provides redundancy for district operations, helping ensure continuity of essential systems. In addition, an employee health center is expected to open later this fall, providing healthcare services closer to employees who live and work on the west side of the county.
District leaders said investments in employee amenities have also strengthened recruitment and retention efforts, with the transportation department entering the new school year fully staffed with no bus driver vacancies.
With the opening of Transportation West, the School District of Osceola County now operates a three-hub transportation network strategically positioned across the county. The new Poinciana facility joins the district’s main Transportation Services complex on Simpson Road in Kissimmee and Transportation East on Nova Road, located adjacent to the new Nova Lake High School campus, which will officially welcome students when the school opens next week. District leaders say the expanded network will improve routing efficiency, reduce travel times, better support continued enrollment growth, and position transportation services closer to the students and communities they serve.
As Osceola County continues to experience rapid residential and school growth, district officials say the three-facility transportation system positions the School District of Osceola County to provide safer, more efficient, and more reliable transportation services while supporting the needs of students, families, and employees for years to come.
Nuevo Centro de Transporte y Operaciones del Oeste de Osceola Fortalece la Red de Tres Centros de Transporte del Distrito Escolar
POINCIANA, Florida — El Distrito Escolar del Condado de Osceola celebró oficialmente el miércoles la inauguración de su nuevo Centro de Transporte y Operaciones del Oeste de Osceola, una importante inversión destinada a mejorar el transporte estudiantil, fortalecer los servicios para los empleados y aumentar la eficiencia operativa, apenas días antes del inicio del año escolar 2026-2027.
Miembros de la Junta Escolar, administradores del distrito, empleados del departamento de transporte, funcionarios electos y líderes comunitarios participaron en la ceremonia oficial de corte de cinta y un recorrido por las nuevas instalaciones, ubicadas en 5300 Robert McLane Blvd. en Poinciana, donde destacaron el impacto que tendrá el centro para atender el rápido crecimiento de la zona oeste del condado.
El proyecto, cuya construcción comenzó con una ceremonia de inicio de obras en febrero de 2025, fue completado en aproximadamente 18 meses y fue diseñado estratégicamente para ubicar autobuses, operaciones de mantenimiento y recursos para los empleados más cerca de las escuelas y comunidades a las que prestan servicio.
Ubicado en un terreno de 53 acres, el nuevo centro actualmente atiende aproximadamente 100 rutas de autobuses y tiene capacidad para albergar hasta 200 vehículos, más de la mitad de toda la flota del distrito. Al posicionar los autobuses más cerca de las escuelas y de las comunidades estudiantiles, los funcionarios del distrito señalan que la instalación permitirá reducir el consumo de combustible, acortar los tiempos de recorrido, disminuir la congestión vehicular causada por autobuses que cruzan el condado y ayudar a que los estudiantes lleguen más rápido a sus hogares.
“Hemos podido optimizar las rutas y hacer el sistema mucho más eficiente”, expresó el superintendente Dr. Mark Shanoff durante el recorrido por las instalaciones. Funcionarios del distrito indicaron que ahora menos autobuses tendrán que recorrer largas distancias para comenzar y finalizar sus rutas, mejorando así la eficiencia del sistema de transporte mientras se prepara para el continuo crecimiento estudiantil en el oeste del condado.
Además de las operaciones de transporte, el complejo fue diseñado como un centro integral para los empleados del departamento. Cuenta con un taller de mantenimiento completamente equipado para realizar reparaciones menores y mayores sin necesidad de trasladar los autobuses al centro principal del distrito en Kissimmee. También incluye salones de capacitación, áreas para certificación CDL, salas de reuniones, áreas de descanso para empleados y una pista dedicada al entrenamiento de conductores.
La presidenta de la Junta Escolar, Heather Kahoun, señaló que el proyecto fue diseñado intencionalmente para mejorar tanto las operaciones como la experiencia de los empleados.
“Acabamos de inaugurar oficialmente nuestro nuevo Centro de Transporte Oeste. Esta instalación fue diseñada con mucha intención. Queríamos reducir el tiempo de manejo de nuestros conductores de autobús, sacar más autobuses de las carreteras y ayudar a disminuir el tráfico. También contará con un centro de datos de respaldo y un centro de salud para empleados, brindando a nuestro personal del lado oeste un acceso más cercano a los servicios médicos. Esperamos que todas estas mejoras beneficien a nuestros maestros, personal de apoyo, conductores de autobús y a toda la comunidad.”
El complejo también alberga un centro de datos alterno que proporcionará redundancia para los sistemas tecnológicos del distrito, garantizando la continuidad de los servicios esenciales. Además, un centro de salud para empleados abrirá sus puertas este otoño, ofreciendo atención médica más accesible para quienes viven y trabajan en la zona oeste del condado.
Los líderes del distrito también destacaron que las inversiones realizadas para mejorar el ambiente laboral han fortalecido los esfuerzos de reclutamiento y retención de personal, permitiendo que el departamento de transporte inicie el nuevo año escolar sin vacantes de conductores de autobús.
Con la apertura de Transporte Oeste, el Distrito Escolar del Condado de Osceola ahora opera una red de tres centros de transporte estratégicamente ubicados en todo el condado. La nueva instalación en Poinciana se une al complejo principal de Servicios de Transporte en Simpson Road, en Kissimmee, y al nuevo Transporte Este, ubicado en Nova Road junto a la nueva Escuela Secundaria Nova Lake, que recibirá oficialmente a sus primeros estudiantes la próxima semana. Los funcionarios del distrito afirman que esta red ampliada permitirá optimizar las rutas, reducir los tiempos de traslado, apoyar el crecimiento continuo de la matrícula escolar y acercar los servicios de transporte a las comunidades que atienden.
