A street race Friday night around 11 pm between two cars in Osceola County ended in a crash that killed an 11-year-old girl and injured three others, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, witnesses reported that a Dodge Charger, driven by a 19-year-old from Davenport, and a Kia Optima, driven by a 17-year-old from Loughton Florida, were racing on US 192 when the Charger failed to slow down and crashed into the back of a Toyota Rav 4.

FHP’s report shows that after the crash, the Dodge Charger left the road and hit a speed limit sign while the Toyota traveled into the median and struck a median warning sign.

The driver of the Charger suffered only minor injuries, and his 19-year-old passenger was uninjured in the crash.

The driver of the KIA from Loughton, Florida was not hurt in the crash.

The driver of the Toyota SUV, a 35-year-old woman from Leesburg, is in serious condition, while one of her passengers, a 23-year-old woman in the passenger’s seat is in critical condition. The other passenger in the Toyota, an 11-year-old girl, also from Leesburg, died later at an area hospital, according to the FHP report.

Tragically, the 11-year-old child was not wearing a seatbelt, the driver and the other passenger in the vehicle were.

The crash is under investigation and charges are pending.
