The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) held a Community Open House on November 19 at the Poinciana Community Center to discuss the Southport Connector Expressway Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study. The event attracted 184 community members eager to learn about CFX’s plans to enhance local and regional transportation.
CFX staff engaged with attendees, sharing information, presenting ideas, and gathering valuable feedback from the community. The PD&E phase is a critical step in evaluating and shaping the future of the Southport Connector Expressway, which aims to improve traffic flow and connectivity for the area.
Community members were provided with various opportunities to participate and share their perspectives. For those unable to attend, CFX continues to invite feedback through online surveys, comment submissions, and scheduled presentations. All Open House materials, including the presentation and exhibits, are available on the project’s official websites: MovePoinciana.com and its Spanish counterpart AvanzaPoinciana.com.
As the project progresses, community members have shifted their focus from understanding the plans to anticipating their timeline. Through the community feedback process, the main concern CFX has heard from the public has shifted from “What are you doing?” to, “When are you doing it?”, CFX Communications Director Brian Hutchings said.
CFX will hold another information session geared to the area’s business community on Friday, Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m. at the Poinciana Library on Doverplum Avenue.
CFX emphasizes the importance of community input in shaping this vital infrastructure project. “Hearing directly from residents is crucial to ensuring the Southport Connector Expressway meets the needs of the community while supporting broader regional goals,” a CFX representative stated.
The Southport Connector Expressway is part of CFX’s ongoing commitment to enhance transportation infrastructure across Central Florida. The agency encourages all residents to stay informed and involved as the project progresses.
