Osceola County, FL — As Central Florida prepares for another stretch of severe cold weather, Osceola County officials have announced that cold weather shelters will open Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24 to provide a safe, warm place for individuals experiencing homelessness or those without adequate shelter.

Under established county protocols, shelters are activated when temperatures are forecast to fall below 40 degrees Fahrenheit for four or more sustained hours.

🏠 Shelter Locations (Opening at 6 p.m.)

The following locations will open at 6 p.m. on both nights and provide overnight refuge:

  • Kissimmee First Church of the Nazarene
    1550 Mill Slough Road, Kissimmee

  • First United Methodist Church St. Cloud
    1000 Ohio Avenue, St. Cloud

Doors will close promptly at 10 p.m., and individuals are encouraged to arrive before that time.

Faith-based organizations and non-profits are actively canvassing areas where homeless individuals are known to gather to share information about shelter availability and assist with transportation coordination.

🚌 Transportation & Pet Accommodations

Transportation to shelters will be available at no cost through LYNX buses. Riders simply need to inform the bus driver they are traveling to a cold weather shelter.

While pets are not permitted at the shelter locations (with the exception of designated service animals), temporary accommodations may be available at Osceola County Animal Services, space permitting. Pets must be dropped off in a crate or carrier.

Osceola County’s Cold Weather Shelter Collaboration Program is coordinated by the Osceola County Office of Emergency Management in partnership with the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud, along with:

Space heaters should be placed away from flammable materials such as draperies, bedding, and clothing. Fuel-burning devices, including grills, should never be used indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Pet owners are encouraged to bring vulnerable animals indoors or provide adequate warm shelter. Residents should also take precautions to prevent pipes from freezing and protect sensitive plants from cold damage.
