This week, the Florida House of Representatives passed Representative Kristen Arrington’s (D-Kissimmee) pivotal HB 103. Designed to safeguard the personal details of city and county attorneys, the legislation ensures that sensitive information, including home addresses, personal phone numbers, and the schools attended by their children, remains confidential and exempt from public record disclosures.

This move marks a significant step in protecting the privacy of non-elected legal professionals serving in local government.

County and city attorneys are regularly involved in legal enforcement proceedings related to violations of codes and ordinances. County attorneys provide representation and legal counsel to the county’s constitutionally-elected officers, the Board of County Commissioners, and various other county departments, agencies, officers, boards, and committees. City attorneys provide representation and legal counsel to the city’s elected and appointed public officials and various city departments, authorities, boards, and committees.

“This is my fourth year running this legislation and I am so proud that it has finally passed the House floor. I am immensely grateful that we are able to deliver this critical legislation back to our communities and protect our hardworking county and city attorneys. I want to thank all those who have helped get this bill to the House floor. I also want to thank Senator Bobby Powell (D-Palm Beach), who sponsored the Senate version of the bill (CS/SB 712), and was able to get the Senate version unanimously passed through all its committee stops,” said Representative Arrington.

HB 103 has passed the House floor unanimously and will head to the Senate floor for the final passage vote.
