As road improvement projects continue across Osceola County and throughout the state, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is reminding drivers to stay alert and safe while traveling through work zones.
Work zones—whether short-term or long-term—often include a combination of workers, construction vehicles, lane closures, detours, and moving equipment. Though work zone fatalities account for only about 2% of total roadway deaths and serious injuries, ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic through these areas remains a top priority for Florida’s transportation and traffic safety partners.
FDOT is asking every motorist to “Do Your Job” when it comes to Work Zone Safety, and has shared the following key reminders:
🚧 BE ALERT – Expect the unexpected when entering a work zone. Conditions can change quickly.
🚧 DON’T TAILGATE – Sudden stops are common in work zones. Maintain a safe following distance.
🚧 DON’T SPEED – Observe and follow all posted speed limits in and around construction areas.
🚧 DON’T CHANGE LANES – Lane changes in work zones are dangerous and rarely save time.
🚧 MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS – Avoid adjusting the radio or using your phone while driving.
🚧 EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED – Stay vigilant for workers, equipment, and new traffic patterns.
By following these guidelines, drivers can help protect not only themselves and their passengers but also the dedicated workers improving Florida’s roadways. For the latest updates on road construction in Osceola County, visit FDOT.gov or follow local advisories from Positively Osceola.
