Student field trips involving air travel are the latest casualty of COVID-19 situation, as they have been canceled through the end of the school year.

An Osceola School District official said it currently affects one trip: three students from St. Cloud Elementary were set to go to Louisville, Ky., for the Robotics World competition in April.

The measure was taken following a call with the Florida Commissioner of Education this morning and based on his strong recommendations. District and school staff members will work with parents and travel companies on appropriate cancellation arrangements.

“While we have been advised by experts that the risk to young people remains low, we encourage everyone to continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and to follow healthy habits,” School District of Osceola County Dana Schafer said in a release. “Hand washing with soap and water remains the best prevention.”
