Robert Verhelst, famously known as “Fireman Rob,” shared a powerful message of resilience to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida’s Tupperware Brands Branch on Tuesday night. Dressed in his full firefighter gear, weighing 35 pounds, the Air Force veteran and career firefighter connected with Club youth, sharing his inspiring story and previewing his upcoming participation in the 2025 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.
Fireman Rob, who has dedicated his life to inspiring others to “live your passion,” spent the evening reading from his soon-to-be-released Strong Kids Series. The 10-book collection is designed to guide children on building confidence, grit, and resilience while embracing their individuality. His visit included engaging discussions with the kids, offering them lessons from his personal journey of overcoming PTSD and achieving world records in endurance sports.
A Hero’s Mission to Uplift Youth
As a firefighter in Madison, Wisconsin, for over 24 years, Rob’s dedication to service extends far beyond his professional duties. A 9/11 responder and Guinness World Record holder, he has completed 23 full Ironman and 29 half Ironman triathlons, running the distances in full fire gear. Through his Fireman Rob Foundation, he has delivered over 8,000 Gund Teddy Bears to hospitalized children worldwide, spreading joy and comfort wherever he goes.
“These kids are the future, and I want them to know that no challenge is too big if you face it with courage and passion,” Rob shared during his visit. His interaction with the youth was filled with encouragement, providing them tools to overcome obstacles and thrive in their unique paths.
Upcoming Disney Marathon Weekend
This coming weekend, Fireman Rob will put his motto, “Your strength is in your passion,” into action as he participates in the 2025 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. He will run the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon—all in his iconic fire gear—while raising awareness and funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. His remarkable endurance feats aim to inspire others and support the organization’s mission of empowering youth.
