The Florida Department of Education has named Denn John Middle School in Osceola County as one of nine schools in the state to receive the 2018 Family and Community Involvement Award, recognizing exemplary school practices that focus on increasing family involvement, welcoming families into the local school system, providing effective communication, supporting student success, and promoting collaboration with the community. The school received the prestigious recognition for its Joyful Celebration project, which met the needs of students and families displaced by last year’s hurricanes.

As part of the program, local business partners, teachers, volunteers, students, and the school community hosted a community meal, distributed grocery bags full of donated food, created a clothing closet, and provided gift baskets of needed supplies to families so children could focus on school. The Joyful Celebration program supports Denn John Middle’s School Improvement Plan of serving the “whole child.”

“Denn John Middle is committed to student success,” said Denn John Middle Principal Henry Hoyle. “We remain dedicated to not only our students’ academic needs, but also to their social-emotional needs as well. I am extremely proud that our school community maintains a support system for our families by identifying school-based needs in order to come together to bring solutions.”
