Harmony (16-1) continued its county dominance in Flag Football with a 26-13 win over Celebration in the FHSAA Class 4A, District 10 championship game on Thursday night.
It was Harmony’s 12th straight win since suffering its only loss of the season to East Bay back on Mar. 7. It also tied the 2023 Longhorns’ squad (16-3) for most wins in school history.
Harmony, which entered the week ranked number one in 4A, Region 3 and seventh overall in the state, will open regional play at home on Wednesday night. Provided the rankings do not change, Harmony – as long as it continues to win — would have home field advantage throughout regionals.
Celebration, 13-4, will most likely secure one of four at-large regional bids when the state championship field is announced on Monday.
It was a slow start for the Longhorns as Celebration’s Julissa Jerome intercepted Harmony quarterback Ivy Munns on the first play of the game and then followed it up with a defensive stop on the Horns second possession.
Quarterback Isabel Meadows fired a touchdown pass to Brynn Lyles and Storm had a 6-0 advantage early in the second quarter.
But the lead would be short-lived. Munns, a freshman, led a 7-play drive that ended in a Khloe Cook-Osani touchdown reception. Ella Husbands’ extra point put Harmony up, 7-6.
A defensive stop, followed by another Cook-Osani touchdown made it 13-6. On the play, Husbands took a pass over the middle and pitched it Cook-Osani, who covered the last 12 yards for the score. “Total unselfish play by Ellah,” coach Paul Strauch said. “She could have easily scored but felt her flag was going to be pulled and pitched to Khloe.”
The score came with less than 40 seconds remaining in the half, as the Longhorns took a seven-point lead into the locker room.
Harmony’s defense came up with a three-and-out to start the third and they quickly capitalized on a 42-yard pass from Munns to Jada Bloodworth to push the lead to 20-13.
Celebration would counter with Meadows’ second touchdown pass for the game, but Harmony would all but put the game away on Husbands’ 6-yard touchdown reception at the end of the third to extend the lead to 26-13. A 30-yard reception from Munns to Cook-Osani was the big play of the drive.
With the win, Osceola pushed their record to 13-0 against Celebration and 48-6 against county opposition over the last nine seasons. Although the teams could meet again in regional play, Strauch said he would prefer that did not happen. “Evan (Celebration head coach Evan Fournier) has done such a great job in building Celebration’s program and I am a fan of all our county teams doing well. If we meet again, I would prefer it be in the regional finals.”
