A 72-year-old woman from Tampa was killed Sunday night when another car entered her lane on State Road 60 in Kenansville in Osceola County, striking her car head-on, according FHP.

The fatal crash took place at 11:23 pm on S.R. 60 near Peavine Road in Kenansville.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 40-year-old woman from West Palm Beach was driving a 2012 Honda Accord east on S.R. 60 when, for some reason, she entered the westbound lane and into the direct path of a 2004 Kia Spectra driven by a 72-year-old woman from Tampa.

Both drivers attempted to avoid the collision by swerving, but the front of the Honda Accord struck the front of the Spectra, according to the FHP crash report.

The 72-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 40-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash is under investigation.
