The Kissimmee Fire Department showed off its dedicated equipment and quick-thinking responders Thursday morning that kept a tire fire from turning into a fully-involved structure fire.

At 11:09 a.m., Kissimmee Fire Department crews were dispatched to Speedy Tires at 211 E. Vine Street, just north and east of downtown Kissimmee, after receiving reports of visible flames and smoke from the location.

Within minutes, the first set of crews arrived on-scene and found a large collection of tires and a shed close to the rear of the structure on fire. Given the nature of the fire and the quick thinking by responding units, the Department’s foam truck, which is equipped with specialized firefighting foam, was assigned to the call to help crews better defend, and save, the nearby storefront.

“Today, we saw a textbook response by City crews who worked hard and fast to contain a fire that posed a threat to this small, locally owned business, and I am proud of the hard work demonstrated on-scene,” said Fire Chief Jim Walls.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The state Fire Marshal will be investigating.
