Kissimmee Utility Authority is celebrating Public Power Week, Oct. 1-7, along with 2,000 other community-powered, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

As part of the celebration, KUA is bringing an energizing educational lesson to local schools with the help of the Monster Detective Collective Learning Lab. During this one-hour Learning Lab, the Monster Detectives will teach students how energy is made, how it’s used, and how they can reduce their energy use. Students will be empowered to lead their families in making wise energy use choices, and, they’ll receive a free engaging activity book to continue their learning at home.

As a not-for-profit, public power utility, KUA is always looking for ways to better serve the community. That is why the utility partnered with local schools to share a fun, energy-themed lesson! Instilling responsible energy-use habits at a young age is a powerful way to increase energy efficiency in the community and save customers money. Everyone uses power every day, but most people rarely think about where it comes from. It is KUA’s mission to increase the community’s understanding of energy, how it is used, and the local men and women who work to keep the lights on every day.

In addition to the Monster Detective Collective, KUA will spend the week engaging with local schools and community members to celebrate Public Power Week.

Activities include:

  • On Tuesday, Oct. 3 KUA staff will visit Renaissance Charter School at Tapestry to bring the Monster Detective Collective Learning Lab to second grade students.
  • On Wednesday, Oct. 4 KUA staff will visit Ventura Elementary to bring the Monster Detective Collective Learning Lab to second grade students.
  • On Friday, Oct. 6 KUA will kick off its annual free 6-month Movie in the Park Series. The event will feature “The Mario Bros. Movie,” shown on a giant 50-foot screen.
