The best women’s golfers in the world — and they’re not all American — will descend on our area this weekend, and bring some of their favorite celebrity friends with them.

The Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions tees off Thursday at the Four Season Golf & Sports Club’s Tranquilo Golf Course, and concludes Sunday. The professional field is made up solely of winners from the 2019 LPGA season. The field includes its top names like Lexi Thompson, Brooke Henderson, Jessica and Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn and the South Korean contingent of Sei Young Kim, Sung Hyun Park, Jin Young Ko and U.S. Open winner Jeongeun Lee6. It’s a cross-section of the tops in the women’s world rankings.

Each day a pro will play with a new pair of celebrities who play under a Stableford (points) system, and that field includes a who’s who from other pro sports and music: Marcus Allen, Roger Clemens, 2018 celebrity winner Mardy Fish, Larry Fitzgerald, Colt Ford, Tom Glavine, Denny Hamlin, the Bachelor’s Ben Higgins, Grant Hill, Case Keenum, Greg Maddux, past celebrity champ Mark Mulder, Golf Channel’s Blair O’Neal, Alfonso Ribeiro (yes, he’ll likely break out into “the Carlton”, he always does), Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, Sterling Sharpe, John Smoltz, Cole Swindell, Brian Urlacher, Justin Verlander, Michael Waltrip and — “Git ‘er Done!!!” — Larry the Cable Guy!

Tickets for the event run from $30 single-day tickets to $99 4-Day Taste and Travel passes that include specialty food and drink items. Get them here, as well as information on concert events at the Four Seasons in conjunction with the tournament all week.

The tournament started in 2013 and has morphed from a fundraising celebrity golf tournament, to a PGA Tour Champions Tour (seniors) event to the first event of the LPGA season starting last year. The celebrity format has remained in place since the inception.
