Orlando Health is joining forces with Doctors’ Center Hospital in Puerto Rico to create Doctors’ Center Hospital |Orlando Health Dorado. The new brand replaces Sabanera Health Dorado, the former name of Puerto Rico’s most advanced acute care hospital.

Orlando Health, a non-profit healthcare organization that serves the southeastern United States, announced recently that it has acquired PRISA Group’s and Triple-S Management’s participation in Sabanera Health Dorado, an agreement that both parties identified as a huge step on taking the new facility to its next level of excellence and benefiting all residents of Puerto Rico’s northern region while solidifying the efforts to promote medical tourism on the island.

The Orlando-based healthcare system and Doctors’ Center Hospital have also forged an agreement to team up on four additional hospitals on the island: Doctors’ Center Hospital San Juan, Doctors’ Center Hospital Bayamón, Doctors’ Center Hospital Manatí and Doctors’ Center Hospital San Fernando De La Carolina. Through the agreement, Doctors’ Center Hospital will continue to operate all five hospitals, ensuring that the organization’s rich history and heritage of delivering quality, efficient care with commitment, love and dedication is maintained.

“There are deep connections between Central Florida and Puerto Rico,” said David Strong, president & CEO, Orlando Health. “Orlando Health will work with Doctors’ Center Hospital to improve care on the island and in Central Florida. Orlando Health is thankful for the input from the 20 person steering committee and physician leaders across the organization that have helped make this relationship possible.”

Developed and built by PRISA Group, Sabanera Health Dorado offers the combination of a patient-centered experience housed within a world-class, state-of-the-art facility. The medical complex incorporates 75 single patient private rooms and 20 suites, eight intensive care units, four neonatal intensive care units and specialized clinics attended by world-class physicians. The facilities are designed taking into consideration the safety and comfort of the patient. In addition to inpatient services, ambulatory services and emergency room, the development incorporates a 20,000 square foot multi-specialty clinic providing integrated, coordinated, and continued care to patients resulting in more effective treatments and an improvement in the health status of the area’s population.

Federico Stubbe, Jr., CEO of developer PRISA Group, indicated that “our team at PRISA has collaborated with leaders in the industry Doctors’ Center Hospital and Triple-S Management to deliver a new model of excellence in patient care, a world-class healthcare facility the people of Puerto Rico deserve and, furthermore, a facility designed from its conception to attract medical tourism patients from all over the region. We are thrilled that Orlando Health comes to Puerto Rico to carry forward our vision to raise the standard of care on the Island to its next level of excellence.”

“We are excited that this new collaboration enhances existing synergies and connections between Puerto Rico and the more than 1 million Puerto Ricans in Florida,” Mr. Stubbe, Jr. added.

The executive indicated that this state-of-the art medical facility was developed for all Puerto Ricans and accepts all major medical insurances, including the one offered by the Government of Puerto Rico.

Roberto García, President and CEO of Triple-S Management, indicated that “this transaction is an important step forward in our strategy to forge a strong relationship with the Florida marketplace. Orlando Health’s commitment to Puerto Rico, in partnership with Doctors’ Center Hospital, creates a unique cross-market opportunity and raises the bar for healthcare on the island. Puerto Rico residents will now have the benefit of high-quality care on the island combined with access to Orlando Health’s extensive Spanish-speaking provider network in Florida, while Puerto Ricans living in Florida and other states can enjoy high-quality care and service on the island in their native language, while accompanied by family and friends.”

Carlos Blanco, MD, MBA, Chairman & President, Doctors’ Center Hospital, indicated that “this transaction represents an opportunity to share some of our best practices and export our experience while providing culturally relevant care to our Orlando Health partners. Physicians and leaders from both of our organizations have embraced this relationship, which will enhance healthcare for individuals and families in Central Florida and Puerto Rico.”

Blanco explained that patients who reside in or travel between the two communities will realize numerous benefits from the alliance. Collaboration between physicians at Orlando Health and Doctors’ Center Hospital will not only enhance the quality of care, but will also improve the continuity of care, especially for frequent travelers who may suffer from chronic conditions that require regular medical intervention. As a result of the newly formed relationship, Orlando Health’s stellar reputation for providing high-quality patient care across multiple specialties and facilities, will extend to Doctors’ Center Hospital |Orlando Health Dorado, the only all-private-room hospital in Puerto Rico.

“For many years we have been honored to count outstanding Puerto Rican doctors, employees and other health related professionals among our staff. Their knowledge, commitment and responsibility are instrumental in Orlando Health’s success. Having them on our team provides the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with their counterparts in Puerto Rico, while also sharing the same cultural values. We see many more opportunities for additional collaboration – – in research, medical education, staffing, and other areas,” added Mr. Strong.
