The Orlando Health Cancer Institute’s Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program is now home to one of the largest units of its kind in Florida.
What started as four beds has now officially expanded to 30. The program now offers patients additional private rooms equipped with positive pressure, where only highly purified air is allowed to enter, to reduce the risk of infection.
The Bone Marrow and Cellular Therapy Program has earned accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), which sets the global standard for the highest quality of patient care in cellular therapy.
Voluntary accreditation is earned through a rigorous process of meeting the most comprehensive standards in the field, and earning FACT accreditation is the mark of excellence for programs providing cellular therapy, including bone marrow transplant.
The program is among the top 10 percent of units in the entire country for positive patient outcomes
“The personalized care we provide to our patients is what makes this program special at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute,” said Dr. Yasser Khaled, Medical Director of the Bone Marrow and Cellular Therapy Program at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. “From the first moment we see our patients, until they are completely cured, whenever they need us, we are going to be there.”
To date, the Bone Marrow and Cellular Therapy program has completed 217 bone marrow transplants.
