Working in conjunction with the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service, Orlando International Airport’s (MCO) Office of Emergency Management is urging all airport employees and the Central Florida community to be prepared this 2021 Atlantic hurricane season.
“Early predictions are that this is going to be another very active year. We have already had one named storm before the season even arrived,” says Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA). “Orlando International Airport is prepared to weather the storms with ongoing staff training, implementation of mitigation/preparedness activities around the airport campus, and dedicated emergency staffing in place.”
A review of emergency plans with the airlines and airport stakeholders has already taken place and MCO reminds travelers and Central Florida residents that in the event of a storm, the airlines working with the Federal Aviation Administration and GOAA will collaborate and determine when operations at MCO will cease and resume. Please remember, Orlando International Airport is NOT an approved hurricane SHELTER.
