KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The future of aviation took center stage Tuesday as Kissimmee Gateway Airport welcomed aviation executives, technology innovators, elected officials, and economic development leaders for an event highlighting how advanced air mobility is poised to transform transportation, strengthen the regional economy, and position Central Florida at the forefront of aerospace innovation.
Held at the Signature Aviation Hangar, the Kissimmee Vertiport & Air Taxi Infrastructure Event focused on the rapid evolution of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM)—an emerging sector centered on electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, commonly referred to as flying taxis, and the infrastructure needed to support next-generation aviation.
The program was emceed by Shaun Germolus, Director of Aviation for the City of Kissimmee, and featured presentations from representatives of Signature Aviation, BETA Technologies, and Bell Dancy Industries, along with remarks from State Senator Kristen Arrington, Florida Representative Leonard Spencer, and Representative Jose Alvarez.
Discussions centered on the partnerships, infrastructure investments, and legislative support needed to prepare communities for the future of advanced air mobility as electric aviation moves closer to commercial implementation.
“Advanced air mobility represents an exciting new chapter in transportation for Central Florida,” State Senator Kristen Arrington said. “The legislation passed last year is helping move these innovations forward, and it’s exciting to see Kissimmee Gateway Airport positioned to help lead that effort. Flying taxis are part of the future of transportation, and more people in the air means fewer people on our roads.”
Germolus said the airport is focused on building the partnerships and infrastructure necessary to support the next generation of aviation while positioning Central Florida to benefit from the economic opportunities the industry will create.
“Having industry leaders, technology partners, and state and local officials come together at Kissimmee Gateway Airport demonstrates the growing interest and collaboration surrounding Advanced Air Mobility,” Germolus said. “We are focused on creating the right foundation through partnerships, infrastructure, and planning to support the future of aviation. By working together, we can continue positioning Central Florida to explore the opportunities this emerging technology may bring.”
While much of the discussion focused on the future, attendees also learned that electric aviation is already taking shape at Kissimmee Gateway Airport. Officials highlighted ongoing testing of BETA Technologies’ ALIA electric aircraft at Signature Aviation and noted that electric aircraft charging infrastructure has already been installed at the airport as the aviation industry continues evaluating the systems needed to support future operations.
Airport officials said Kissimmee Gateway’s strategic location, existing aviation infrastructure, and proximity to innovation assets such as NeoCity make it well positioned to support aircraft demonstrations, pilot training, maintenance operations, testing, and other aerospace activities as advanced air mobility continues to evolve.
During the event, Positively Osceola spoke with Kissimmee City Manager Mike Steigerwald and Kissimmee Commissioner Jeanette Martínez, who emphasized that advanced air mobility represents much more than a new way to travel. Both discussed its potential to attract high-tech employers, create high-paying careers, encourage private investment, and further strengthen Kissimmee’s position as a regional center for innovation, economic development, and next-generation transportation.
The airport’s efforts align with the City of Kissimmee’s broader economic development strategy of attracting emerging industries while expanding opportunities in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and technology-driven business sectors.
Although widespread passenger service using eVTOL aircraft is still on the horizon, Tuesday’s event demonstrated that planning for that future is already well underway. Through continued collaboration among government, private industry, and technology leaders, Kissimmee Gateway Airport is helping lay the groundwork for what many believe will become the next era of aviation in Central Florida.

“De Orlando a Tampa en 30 Minutos”: El Aeropuerto Kissimmee Gateway Presenta el Futuro de la Aviación
KISSIMMEE, Florida.
