Osceola Arts announced its amazing list of plays and musicals for the 2019-2020 Theatre Season. The season begins at the end of September and runs through August 2020.
The Addams Family: A New Musical, September 27 – October 13
Based on the beloved Addams Family cartoon characters that made their first appearance in The New Yorker in 1938. In this musical adaptation, a family of outsiders comes to dinner and the Addams family quickly finds their dark and spooky lifestyle turned upside-down. During one night, this notoriously quirky family must face the one thing that scares them most: change!
Dogfight, October 25 – November 3 *Limited Engagement Add-on*
Based on the 1991 film, this musical follows a young soldier as he looks for a last minute date to a party. Enter kind, simple and trusting Rose and what starts out as a cruel invitation ends in a timeless lesson of love and compassion. With music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also penned Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman, this contemporary musical is sure to both challenge and inspire audiences.
White Christmas, December 6 – December 22
Add two veteran soldiers, two talented singing sisters and a Vermont lodge at Christmas together and you get this beloved holiday musical! Sprinkle in 17 Irving Berling holiday songs, including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano” and of course, “White Christmas,” and you have a perfectly festive treat for the whole family!
Moon Over Buffalo, January 24 – February 9
Written by master playwright Ken Ludwig this screwball comedy is a play within a play. The year is 1953 and George and Charlotte Hay finds themselves struggling to perform two classic plays at a local repertory theatre. Amidst family crises, infidelity, and binge drinking, the company hilariously tries to pull it all together for their special matinee visitor, Hollywood hotshot Frank Capra.
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, February 28 – March 15
This winner of a Tony for Best Musical and a Pulitzer Prize is a musical satire of big business. When window-washer J. Pierrepont Finch stumbles upon a little handbook about flourishing with very little effort. While following these instructions, he quickly climbs the corporate ladder and must decide if this new success is worth the cost of love.
Once on this Island, March 27 – April 5 *Limited Engagement Add-on*
Once on This Island is a theatrical adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid. When a peasant girl falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of their tropical island, she begins a difficult journey to prove love is stronger than death. Guided by the powerful Calypso gods, Ti Moune ultimately breaks the societal wall and unites the people of her island.
Arcadia, April 17 – May 3
Tom Stoppard’s play has been praised as “the finest play from one of the most significant contemporary playwrights.” This show takes place in a single room on the Coverly estate while transitioning between 1809 and today. In 1809 the young lady of the house is tutored in the ways of literature and science while the current inhabitants of the housework to unravel the mysteries of the time, truth and love during the 1800s.
And Then There Were None, June 12 – June 28
Crime writer Agatha Christie’s play, based on the 1939 book, begins when ten strangers are invited to a remote island. Each one has their own unsavory past they are unwilling to reveal. Each one has been accused of murder. Each one has a target on their back. Each one is eventually picked off. All but one. Which one will remain to complete the ominous nursery rhyme Ten Little Indians?
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, July 17 – August 2
Based on the smash-hit movie of the same name, this musical is a funny, vibrant, disco-filled stage production. Featuring dance-floor favorites like “I Will Survive,” Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and “It’s Raining Men,” this musical follows two drag queens and a transgender woman as they travel across the country in Priscilla, their lavender bus. On their trip, the trio encounters some unique characters and situations while expanding comfort zones and touching hearts along the way.
New Season Tickets Packages and single show tickets will go on sale to the general public May 1st. Season Tickets include all seven productions for $140. The two limited engagement productions can be added on to season ticket packages at a reduced rate. Current Season Ticket holder renewals are currently available. Single show ticket prices are $20 for Seniors and students and $25 for Adults. Group rates are also available.
