A 32-year-old woman from Georgia died early Saturday morning after being struck by an SUV while crossing U.S. 17-92 (Orange Blossom Trail) near the Oaks Boulevard in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred just after midnight, around 12:08 a.m.
According to troopers, the woman was attempting to cross the roadway from the east shoulder to the west shoulder when she fell in the outside southbound lane. Although she was in a marked crosswalk, the pedestrian signal reportedly displayed “Do Not Cross” at the time.
Moments later, a 2005 Toyota Highlander driven by an 18-year-old woman from Kissimmee struck the pedestrian. The driver remained at the scene and was not injured, troopers said.
The injured woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.
