St. Cloud Main Street and the City of St. Cloud are currently accepting applications for their Historic Preservation Awards & Plaques program. This initiative aims to recognize historic buildings located within the city limits.

St. Cloud Main Street and the City of St. Cloud began working together in May to recognize historic buildings within the city limits. Through this program homes that meet eligibility criteria can apply or be nominated for a Historic Preservation award or Historic Plaque. The next deadline to apply is in February 2024  with awards being presented in May. If you would like to request an application  email Tristian at office@stcloudmainstreet.org or visit here for more information: https://stcloudmainstreet.org/historic-preservation-awards-plaques/.

The Awards program has four categories; preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and additions/new construction. The preservation category is for work that has been done to sustain the existing form, integrity, and materials of the historic property. Rehabilitation is for properties that has been repaired, altered, or for additions that preserve the features which convey its historical, cultural, archaeological, or architectural significance. The restoration category covers buildings that have had been restored to the original historic state by removal of features from other periods and reconstruction of missing features from the restoration period. Lastly, additions and new construction include new features to a historic property that are compatible and in character with the existing historic building and surrounding contributing historic resources.

To apply or nominate someone for a historic award there is a $50 fee and application that must be turned into the St. Cloud City Hall at 1300 9th Street St. Cloud, FL 34769. Deadline to apply is February 1st of each year to be considered for the May ceremony.
