Osceola County residents will soon have an opportunity to play a vital role in community safety during severe weather. The Osceola County Emergency Operations Center will host a SKYWARN Spotter Training on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The training, led by the National Weather Service, is designed to prepare volunteers to recognize and report hazardous weather conditions, helping forecasters provide timely and accurate warnings that can save lives.

What Participants Will Learn

Attendees will receive instruction on:

  • Storm structure – understanding how storms form and develop

  • Severe weather hazards – identifying threats such as tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds

  • Weather reporting – how to provide critical information that supports meteorologists and emergency responders

SKYWARN spotters serve as the “eyes and ears” on the ground, relaying real-time conditions that radar and technology may not detect. Their reports are crucial in keeping communities informed and safe during severe storms.

How to Get Involved

The training is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Interested participants can sign up through the National Weather Service at weather.gov/mlb/skywarn.
