More than 3,500 athletes from across Florida gathered in Kissimmee this weekend to compete in the 2025 Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games, a two-day celebration of determination, sportsmanship, and inclusion. Held May 16–17 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the USTA National Campus at Walt Disney World Resort, the event brought together competitors, families, coaches, and volunteers for one of the year’s most inspiring athletic showcases.

Athletes participated in seven sports: track and field, basketball, soccer, bocce, cycling, cheerleading, and tennis—each showcasing not just athletic ability but also teamwork and perseverance.

From the roar of the crowd at soccer matches to the rhythmic cheers during the cheerleading competitions, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and community spirit. Opening Ceremonies on Friday night officially kicked off the Games, setting the stage for a powerful weekend of unity and celebration.

“These Games are more than just a competition—they are a testament to the potential and spirit of every athlete here,” said a Special Olympics Florida representative. “It’s about providing opportunities and honoring the incredible efforts of our athletes, their families, and coaches.”

The State Summer Games represent the pinnacle of competition for many of Florida’s Special Olympics athletes and serve as a reminder of the importance of inclusion and accessibility in sports. Special Olympics Florida supports more than 75,000 athletes each year through free programs that include sports training, competition, health services, and leadership development.
