An amazing reunion took place on Thursday at the City of Kissimmee Fire Department Station 11, as a trauma survivor expressed his gratitude to the emergency responders and medical personnel who saved his life.

The survivor, whose heart had stopped after being critically injured in a vehicle-pedestrian accident while riding an electric bike, beat incredible odds—trauma cases like his typically have less than a 3% chance of survival. Thanks to the swift efforts of the City of Kissimmee Fire Department, Kissimmee Police Department, and hospital staff, he was resuscitated and walked out of the hospital 20 days later.

During the ceremony, the survivor shared the news that he and his partner are expecting a baby and expressed his profound appreciation for the quick actions of the team that gave him a second chance at life.

The event honored the extraordinary teamwork and expertise of the emergency responders, firefighters, and hospital staff who played a vital role in saving the patient’s life. In an emotional moment, the survivor shared his recovery story and personally thanked the heroes who gave him a second chance.

Kissimmee Fire Chief James Walls recognized the critical timing and collaboration involved in the response. “The police officer who administered CPR, followed by our crews who arrived on the scene, worked in perfect synchronization with dispatchers and hospital staff. Everything had to happen at just the right moment for him to be with us today,” Chief Walls stated. “We are incredibly proud to celebrate this life-saving success.”

The ceremony underscored the critical importance of training, collaboration, and quick action in emergency situations highlighting the life-changing impact of the work done by these first responders and healthcare professionals. Well done City of Kissimmee Fire Department Station 11!
