OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Two Kissimmee residents were killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:10 p.m. on June 23 in the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near mile marker 240, south of St. Cloud.
Investigators said a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling southbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the left and struck the inside concrete barrier wall.
According to FHP, the driver then overcorrected, causing the SUV to travel back across the roadway and run off the right side. The vehicle began rotating, overturned, and struck the outside shoulder concrete barrier.
During the crash, the 56-year-old male driver from Kissimmee was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A 65-year-old female passenger, also from Kissimmee, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers reported that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The passenger’s seatbelt use was not known.
The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members.
Florida Highway Patrol homicide and traffic homicide investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released.
The crash remains under investigation.

CONDADO OSCEOLA, Fla. — Dos residentes de Kissimmee fallecieron la tarde del martes en un accidente de un solo vehículo ocurrido en la Florida Turnpike, según informó la Patrulla de Carreteras de Florida (FHP).
El accidente fatal ocurrió aproximadamente a la 1:10 p.m. del 23 de junio en los carriles en dirección sur de la Florida Turnpike, cerca del marcador de milla 240, al sur de St. Cloud.
De acuerdo con los investigadores, una Toyota FJ Cruiser modelo 2007 circulaba hacia el sur cuando, por razones que aún se desconocen, se salió de la carretera hacia la izquierda y chocó contra la barrera de concreto del carril interior.
Según FHP, el conductor corrigió bruscamente la dirección, provocando que el vehículo cruzara nuevamente la vía y se saliera por el lado derecho. El SUV comenzó a girar, se volcó y terminó impactando la barrera de concreto del hombro exterior de la carretera.
Durante el accidente, el conductor, un hombre de 56 años residente de Kissimmee, salió expulsado del vehículo. Fue trasladado al Hospital HCA Florida Osceola, donde posteriormente fue declarado fallecido debido a las lesiones sufridas.
Una pasajera de 65 años, también residente de Kissimmee, fue declarada muerta en el lugar del accidente.
Los investigadores informaron que el conductor no llevaba puesto el cinturón de seguridad al momento del choque. Se desconoce si la pasajera estaba utilizando el cinturón de seguridad.
Las identidades de las víctimas no han sido divulgadas mientras se notifica a sus familiares.
Los investigadores de tránsito y homicidios de la Patrulla de Carreteras de Florida continúan examinando las circunstancias que rodearon el accidente. Hasta el momento no se han dado a conocer más detalles.
