Last week marked the conclusion of Operation Best Foot Forward, a two-week, high-visibility pedestrian safety campaign aimed at reminding drivers it’s the law to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
With a special Back to School focus, the regional effort spanned 40 enforcement details across nine counties and 20 municipalities, resulting in 594 warnings and citations issued to drivers for failing to yield to pedestrians. The campaign’s safety message also reached more than 1 million broadcast viewers in the Orlando and Tampa news markets.
The operation brought together law enforcement agencies, local governments, and community partners to highlight pedestrian safety at a time when more children and families are walking to and from school.
