KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says an illegal house party near Davenport led to a teenage shooting and three arrests over the weekend, including a 19-year-old Orlando man accused of possessing a handgun and prepackaged marijuana inside a backpack.
Deputies were called to a residence on Thunderbird Road in the ChampionsGate/Four Corners area of southwest Osceola County shortly after 5:20 p.m. on May 3 following reports of a large party taking place at the home.
According to investigators, the first deputy arriving at the scene was speaking with Curtis Security officers outside the residence when a gunshot was suddenly heard from inside the house. Partygoers immediately began fleeing the residence as deputies moved in to secure the scene and investigate.
Authorities said no victims were initially located inside the home, but deputies discovered alcohol and a firearm within the residence. A short time later, a 17-year-old arrived at Orlando Health Hospital in Davenport suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Detectives determined the shooting had occurred upstairs inside the home, but investigators say the victim refused to cooperate and provided no details about how the shooting occurred.
Following interviews with witnesses, detectives arrested Katty Francois and Neika St. Louis, both 18 and from Orlando, charging them with promoting and running an open house party and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Under Florida law, it is illegal for a person in control of a residence to knowingly allow minors to consume alcohol or drugs at an open house party without taking reasonable steps to stop it. Authorities say the charges are classified as misdemeanors under Florida statutes.
A third arrest was also made during the investigation.
Deputies arrested 19-year-old Robert David White of Orlando after he was stopped outside the residence carrying a backpack while walking with three other males. Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the backpack and reportedly discovered a handgun and prepackaged marijuana inside.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, White faces charges including possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of a weapon during the commission of a third-degree felony.
All three individuals were booked into the Osceola County Jail.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue working to determine exactly how the teenager was shot.
