KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Osceola County’s growing role in the semiconductor industry was on display at NeoCity as technology startups, investors, corporate partners and industry leaders gathered for the Plug and Play NeoCity Semiconductor Expo, a day focused on emerging technologies, investment and business development.
Osceola County Commission Chairman and District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington delivered opening remarks, welcoming participants to NeoCity and kicking off an event designed to connect emerging technology companies with potential investors, corporate partners and leaders from across the semiconductor industry.
The August 19 event featured startup pitches, industry panels, one-on-one matchmaking sessions and networking opportunities while showcasing the momentum behind the semiconductor and advanced technology ecosystem taking shape at NeoCity.
The event also highlighted companies participating in the latest Plug and Play NeoCity Semiconductors accelerator batch, with startups presenting technologies across advanced manufacturing, defense, power and sensing, software and edge artificial intelligence.
Among the companies presenting were TriMagnetix, Chronos Photonics, Alkemio, Diasense, Exhilarare, Orion Edge Group, Noetronis, Ender Technologies, Equilibria Power, Aura Intelligent Systems, KostaCLOUD, BitTrace, Hello World Solutions, Supermatics and Hero Medical Technologies.
Following the morning presentations, startups met individually with corporate representatives, investors and other partners to discuss potential business relationships, investment opportunities and paths toward bringing their technologies to market.
The afternoon shifted to broader discussions about the semiconductor industry, including a fireside chat featuring Cadence, Plug and Play and Osceola County, as well as a panel examining the challenges and opportunities involved in funding and building deep-tech companies.
Representatives from Actuate Ventures, Spaceport Fund, Plug and Play Ventures and FloridaCommerce participated in the funding discussion.
The program also included a conversation examining Florida’s semiconductor ecosystem and a presentation on semiconductor trends during the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence era.
Plug and Play alumni companies Plaid Semiconductors, PhantaField and MEI Micro returned to present their technologies, while Ozni AI and Bedrock Semiconductors were featured during additional startup pitches.
The Expo is part of Osceola County’s broader effort to develop NeoCity into a major center for semiconductor research, advanced manufacturing and technology development.
Located near Kissimmee, NeoCity is a 500-acre technology district focused on areas including semiconductors, advanced packaging, smart sensors, photonics and optics. Osceola County has worked with universities, research organizations, private companies and government partners to expand the district and attract additional technology investment to the region.
That effort received a significant boost in 2022 when Osceola County and its coalition partners were awarded $50.8 million through the federal Build Back Better Regional Challenge. The funding is supporting the expansion of fabrication and advanced manufacturing capabilities while helping create opportunities for new high-wage technology jobs.
The county’s partnership with Plug and Play, a global innovation platform connecting startups, corporations and investors, is another part of that strategy. Through the NeoCity semiconductor accelerator, emerging companies gain access to industry leaders, potential customers, investors and other resources aimed at helping move technologies from development toward commercialization.
For Osceola County, the Expo provided another opportunity to bring those pieces together — connecting emerging companies with investors and industry partners while showcasing the technology, infrastructure and investment taking shape at NeoCity.
As demand for domestically developed semiconductor technology continues to grow, Osceola County is positioning NeoCity to compete for companies, investment and high-wage jobs in an industry increasingly important to Florida and the nation.
