A Checkers restaurant employee in Kissimmee, just steps from Fun Spot, will remain behind bars after a judge denied bond on Friday in connection with a deadly shooting during a dispute over a food order.

Elijah Mackey, 23, is facing a charge of first-degree pre-medidate murder in the death of 32-year-old Wesley Robertson. The deadly shooting took place around 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Checkers restaurant on West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee.

According to investigators, an argument began inside the restaurant after Robertson questioned his order and reportedly asked to speak with a manager. Witnesses say the disagreement escalated when Mackey left the building, pulled out a gun, and shot Robertson in the chest.

Robertson was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

Detectives say Mackey fled the scene after the shooting and was later found hiding under a stairwell at Celebration Suites. While being taken into custody, he reportedly asked deputies if Robertson was okay.

Surveillance video reviewed by authorities reportedly shows Mackey climbing out of the restaurant’s drive-thru window and walking toward the front of the building, where Robertson is later seen collapsing.

Mackey was arrested Thursday on a warrant and remains in the Osceola County Jail with no bond.

The investigation remains active.
