The passenger in a BMW that crashed while racing another BMW early Sunday morning on West US192 in Osceola County is dead, FHP says.

Around 6am Sunday morning, 32-year-old Wilfredo Lanzo-Torres was driving his 2016 BMW westbound toward I-4 when, according to witnesses that spoke to FHP, he appeared to be racing another BMW that was also driving westbound.

According to Florida troopers, Torres lost control of his car, went off the US192 and struck a tree, fatally injuring his passenger, 27-year-old John Vierra Sanatana.

Torres was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center.

Both Torres and Sanatana were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, and it is not known whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Charges are currently pending against Torres and FHP has no information at this time about the other BMW driver.
