The National Hurricane Center reported on Monday that the first tropical wave of the season emerged off the coast of Africa. The tropical wave is the first among approximately 60 waves that originate over North Africa annually, according to the the National Hurricane Center.

With the hurricane season approaching in a few weeks, the NHC has initiated its daily Tropical Weather Outlook for the Atlantic basin, which will be issued four times a day. Researchers at Colorado State University anticipate that this season may be slightly below-average. In their prediction released in April, they projected six hurricanes, with two of them potentially reaching Category 3, 4, or 5, and a total of 13 named storms for the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season.
