On Friday Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he’s directing the Department of Children and Families to submit a federal waiver to temporarily increase SNAP benefits  to the maximum amount allowed. That means that families that were receiving $449 per month will now receive $509.

The governor said that the change will impact hundreds of thousands of families across the state, and help those families that have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent layoffs.

DeSantis also said he is ordering anyone who travels to Florida from New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana to self-isolate for two weeks, and will put checkpoints on Florida highways.

The governor issued a similar order earlier this week for people traveling to Florida by air from New York and New Jersey.

DeSantis said he is also ordering a two week ban on all new vacation rentals.
