The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is calling on residents and visitors across the state to help track wild turkeys by reporting sightings through August 31.
Whether it’s hens, gobblers, or poults (newly hatched turkeys), every sighting counts in the FWC’s annual summer wild turkey survey. The information gathered helps biologists better understand nesting success, poult survival rates, and overall wild turkey population trends in Florida.
The survey is part of a larger multi-state effort to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of wild turkey populations. While turkeys are commonly found across Florida, their reproductive success can vary each year due to factors like weather, predators, and habitat conditions.
Nesting typically begins in late spring and continues through the summer months. By sharing observations, the public plays an important role in helping wildlife officials assess turkey populations at both regional and statewide levels.
