A St. Cloud dad and his 14-year-old son were killed on July 4th after their pickup truck was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Shortly after 10 pm Sunday night a 65-year-old Orlando man was, for an unknown reason, driving his Toyota RAV 4 southbound in the northbound lane on Canoe Creek Road (CR 523) in Osceola County. At the same time, 40-year-old Mike Skipper and his 14-year-old son Mikey, from St. Cloud, were traveling northbound in a Chevy S-10 pickup truck on the same road.
The two vehicles crashed head-on killing both drivers. The 14-year-old boy, who was the passenger in the pickup truck, died later at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The crash is still under investigation.
“When I look back and think of Skip and Mikey the first thing I think is love, from the moment Jenn and Skip started dating to watching them walk down the sandy shores of cocoa beach to become husband and wife, to the welcoming of both their children Mikey and Addie love has just grown stronger and deeper. Skip’s love and devotion to his family was like no other, much like anything Skip did he showed exactly how much he loved every second of life, Redman wrote.
“My heart breaks knowing their lives were stolen from them at a split second on Skip’s favorite holiday. I am hoping we can raise enough funds to take the worries away from Jenn going from two incomes to one in the blink of an eye so she can focus on how to rebuild and heal from going from a family of four to only two in mere seconds.”
