In an inspiring display of community unity and compassion, Downtown Kissimmee transformed into a beacon of hope on Saturday afternoon, as Dakin Avenue, in front of 3 Sisters Speakeasy, buzzed with the sound of clippers for a noble cause. The annual St. Baldrick’s Shave Fest once again brought together local leaders and community members, all united in a single mission—to fight childhood cancer head-on.

A Shave for a Cause

At the heart of this remarkable event were volunteers ready to part with their locks, all to support children battling cancer. Sports Clips in Kissimmee stepped up, turning Dakin Avenue into an open-air barbershop where courage was measured in inches of hair falling to the ground. The event was masterfully MC’d by the City of Kissimmee’s own James Napier, whose voice rallied the crowd and celebrated each shavee’s contribution.

This year’s Shave Fest saw an overwhelming turnout from community leaders, including Justin Hetu from the City of Kissimmee, who, as the final volunteer of the day, bid farewell to his white mane for the cause. Andrew Sullivan of the City of St. Cloud, Guy Samuelson, Director of the Osceola Law Enforcement Academy, officers from the Kissimmee Police Department (KPD), and John Siudut, owner of Kissimmee Vintage Vino, were among the many who offered their hair to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research. The Kissimmee Police Department showed its support, continuing a tradition of participation and backing for the event.

The Kissimmee Shave Fest was a financial success as well, raising over $20,000 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a testament to the generosity and spirit of the Kissimmee community. Leading the fundraising effort was Justin Hetu, who alone contributed $4,052.20. Not far behind were John Siudut, Linda Azmitia Esposito, Chris Schwarz, Paz Johnson, and Andrew Sullivan, each raising over $1,000.

The St. Baldrick’s Shave Fest is more than just an annual event; it’s a movement that seeks to bring hope and critical funding to childhood cancer research. Over 20 individuals had their heads shaved this year, symbolizing their solidarity with children undergoing cancer treatment. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation focuses on this demographic because childhood cancer research is vastly underfunded. Events like the Shave Fest play a crucial role in closing this funding gap.
