KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The City of Kissimmee Fire Department marked a major moment in its history Thursday evening, swearing in 33 members during a ceremony at Kissimmee Christian Church that underscored the agency’s continued growth and evolving operations.
The event, led by Fire Chief Jim Walls, included 18 promotions and the addition of 15 new firefighters, as family members, colleagues, and city leaders looked on.
The ceremony also marked the department’s transition to a new 24/72 work schedule and the creation of its first “D-Shift,” a change officials say is designed to improve staffing balance and response capabilities as the city continues to grow.
Thursday’s program followed a traditional format, opening with the Presentation of Colors and an invocation before moving into the promotional portion of the ceremony.
The ceremony recognized the individuals stepping into new and expanded roles within the department. Among those promoted to lieutenant were Brandon Moore, Spencer Goodwin, Joshua Clark, David Losey, Hai Nguyen, Connor Quinn, Michelle Muckerman, and Greg Lightbody. Engineers included Scott Watson, Rion Strum, Tino Coll-Cardenas, Ryan Wheeler, Jericho Watkins, Jeremy Needham, Matt Carrick, John Dombrosky, Jacob Hunter, and Renato Pimenta. The department also welcomed a new class of firefighters: Lazaro Gonzalez, Shawnjay Holtham, Stephen Zotti, Daniel Lewis, Christopher Steel, Fernando Negron, Christopher Scofield, Brithany Carrington, Jean Gomez, John Telford, Justin McLees, Jorgeandree Sical, Russell Robles, Dylan Perez, and Armando Rodriguez. Together, the group represents a blend of experience and new talent strengthening the department’s ranks.
Firefighters stepping into new roles as lieutenants and engineers were sworn in first, reflecting shifts in leadership across the department. A video presentation highlighting the incoming class preceded the swearing-in of the department’s newest firefighters, who took their oath in front of a packed audience inside the church.
The group represents one of the larger combined classes of promotions and new hires in recent years for the department, signaling both increased demand for service and a broader effort to strengthen staffing levels.
City officials have pointed to steady population growth and rising call volumes as key factors behind the expansion, with the addition of a fourth shift expected to help distribute workload more evenly among crews.
